Good airbrush for spraying bald cap plastic
« on: March 30, 2010, 10:57:37 PM »
I found the Paasche F1 single action great for airbrushing babld cap plastic into moulds (5 parts acetone to 1 part plastic), cheap as chips doesn't clog, optional big pot to carry the cap plastic.

Anyone recommend another?

My go to and many other artists' as well is the Paasche H, and prefer a number 5 tip and needle.  As for thinning, I do it by eye, not by measurement, and that seems to generate better results.

Paasche h for me too, i love this little brush. i also find that using super baldies thinned with alcohol much better to use that the original acetone thinned one,

One of these days I have to get my hands on some Super Baldies.  I have been listening to people rave about it for almost a year now.

once you try it youll never go back to the original, its stretchier, stronger, clear and uses i.p.a as a solvent making blending edges into the skin a lot less toxic than acetone. all in all helluva cool product !

That's what I keep hearing.  I have a pint of the old stuff, so I can't substantiate the order, plus it is a Hazmat shipment, but we will get some eventually.  To be honest, I have yet to see Mouldlife develop a bad product.  For me they are kinda like PPI, just have the golden touch.

Got to agree with that. Gotta love Mouldlife !! Justin, russell, John, Kim etc.... lovely people and always come up with quality products.... by the way have you tried the kensington gore blood ? now thats a bit special. its got the perfect colour and consistency, edible (tastes minty) and washes off with soap and water with no staining, the way it smears is very realistic too. noticed that p.p.i. have come out with a "fleet street" blood... wonder who theyve been checking out then  ;D

Is Kensington blood bluer than normal blood? ;)

Fleet Street blood sounds like an oxymoron, there ain't a drop of blood in Fleet Street ;D

theres 3 different shades, venial.... a bit bluer like a very fresh blood, arterial thats like a great standard colour then aged wich is a little browner. theres also a non edible non beading version for silicone although adding a tiny drop of washing up liquid either to the blood or stippled on the silicone  sorts that out (not for mouth useage though)

I've switched to a small spritz bottle for doing baldies, unless your doing a piece that demands exact coverage. I find it never clogs, it's always ready to go, don't need a compressor.........
Just make sure the plastic is solvent resistant.

Yeah i used a little spritz bottle last week to do the encapsulate on some flat moulded gel00 cheeck appliances. was very simple and easy and no messing with the airbrush / compressor etc. came out a treat.

Spray bottle sounds great.  I wish I could do that here, but none of the spray bottles I have found in China that can handle acetone have a good enough seal on them.  Sounds like I am stuck with my H.

I've used the little ones that come with AA palettes and I just bought a glass one from my health food store I'm going to try out. The on I like best so far is the "Smoothie" spritz bottle from fuse fx. After we finished the product we washed out the bottle and used that.

Thanks Ian.  The address here can be a bit confusing.  I will bear it in mind though.  Maybe when I finally make it to the UK, I can play with it.  I mostly just worry about it being claimed by customs and my never seeing it because of the solvent in the baldies.  China is weird that way.  It is touch having things shipped here.  We usually only do it in large quantity and have a customs agent deal with customs for us.  Last time I got baldies we snuck it into the country in my luggage taking a train from Hong Kong.
