Oven for Cooking Foam Latex
« on: August 07, 2013, 01:32:18 AM »
Does anyone have detailed instructions and materials list to build an oven to cook foam latex.
Created my first prosthetic at FX class and want to cook some at home.

Thanks,
Scott

I bought a kiln, and my dad pimped it up so it can work fully, adding thermostats and lots more. Everything he got me cost about 7000 ZA money.  I'm not sure how a fx oven should look. tell us what you want it to do. ok?

A foam latex oven needs to be able to accurately maintain any temperature, once set, in the range of 100-200 degrees Fahrenheit.  It should not fluctuate more than 1-3 degrees.  It should also be convection.  A kiln does not cook at those low temperatures and kilns are often, pound for pound, more money than foam ovens.

As I've said my dad pimped my kiln with a thermostat, it fluctuates between 1-3 degrees, and can fire at a very low temperature. The temp shows outside with the ferenheit chosen in celsuis.  With everything my dad did to the kiln it can be used for sfx then.

What is the interior size?  How far from the heating element is the holding body of the oven?  If your heating element is too close to the main mold area, even at a low temperature, it can cause stress and uneven heating of the molds.  Is there a fan to recirculate the air??  What is the current temp range??

the heating element is a row of three in its own hidden holes-- like a garden before things being planted. and it can take a huge bust for baking. I have a single air-drying cabinet made on my birthday. it can go from 1- 1250  Celsius the kiln.
